We are proud to be listed as a Preferred Provider in the Plymouth City Council Online Directory

Providing QUALITY Day and Respite/Short Break services

Our Mission is to provide first class Day Services and Short Breaks/Respite Care in an atmosphere where people feel valued, secure, relaxed and comfortable with their peers in a homely environment.

Our Aim is to provide a flexible responsive service where the need of the service user is the impetus for continuous improvement.

The Core Values we strive to provide for our service users are dignity, privacy, independence, choice, rights and fulfilment.

All enablers within the Centre are appropriately qualified to deliver the highest standard of care. A continuous staff training programme is implemented to ensure that these high standards are maintained in line with the latest developments in Care Practices as may be laid down in appropriate Legislation, Regulations and the regulatory bodies. Staff are trained to preserve and maintain the dignity, individuality and privacy of all people , and in doing so will be sensitive to ever changing needs. We are not in direct competition with any other service provider, but are a complementary alternative service. Other providers operate differently and do not provide the same services or skills and opportunities for individual users and their families.

As potential new customers will be receiving Individual Budgets; the main thrust of our personalisation agenda means that:

In line with government policy, we will develop services to enable users to take advantage of social and educational opportunities within their local community. In order to do this we are developing an enabling service to provide these services with the potential of providing weekend and evening support to individuals as opposed to traditional day service placements.

We are further developing the service to provide a specialist environment and support to individuals with profound multiple and complex needs, offering them the opportunities of intensive assistive and creative sensory environments.

“Independence South West” provides services to individuals with physical and associated sensory and or learning disabilities, their families and carers.

Independence South West operates a 3 bedded respite/Short Break service “Rockville House” and a day service that provides for up to 21 individuals these services cater for people between the ages of 18 and 65.

“Rockville House” and Independence South West aim to provide people with a secure, relaxed and homely environment in which their care, well being and comfort are of prime importance.

We strive to preserve and maintain the dignity, individuality and privacy of all people within a warm and caring atmosphere, and in so doing will be sensitive to the their ever-changing needs. Such needs may be cultural, psychological, spiritual, emotional and social, and people are encouraged to participate in the development of their individualised Service User Plans in which the involvement of care managers, advocates, family and friends is greatly valued.

This is achieved through activities designed to encourage self-esteem, social interaction with others and with recognition of the Core Values of Care which are fundamental to the philosophy of our Services.

Independence South West further aims to foster Independence in adults with severe physical and/or sensory disabilities to live as independently as possible. To provide first class Day opportunities and excellent respite care in a caring family atmosphere where people feel valued, secure, relaxed and comfortable with their peers in a homely environment in which their care, well being and comfort are of prime importance.
